We have a celebrity (Deepika Padukone) who took the courage to talk about her depression in the recent past. That has raised the awareness. Naturally media is playing a role, thanks to “celebrity-endorsement”.
Shocking to know we are ‘one of the most (most) depressed people’, at 36%. (CNN-IBN) Now isn’t that huge? Are we surprised? Not really…
Often we are not aware of other’s state of mind. We are just too busy…
Deepika rightly points out how critical family’s support is. Also, friends?! ‘How many 1 AM friends I have?’ is a good question to ask ourselves.

One of the biggest sources of depression is media, with all its negativity. It is also our choice, can’t blame anyone else either.
Medication should be the last resort, for all its side-effects. Being consciously mindful of our thought, word & deed, we would be able to avoid/manage depression, variants thereof. Healthy & holistic lifestyle (yet again a choice) can ensure we don’t slip into such states…
Physical exercise, right food, meditation/mindfulness practice are critical.
Having a life coach can be of big help. Someone who is not from family, work & who has no direct/indirect stake in you. Someone who is trained & credentialed, has experience and with whom you can connect. The right coach can help in a big way.
If we come across, within family/work/community or outside, let us be empathetic and aware of his/her rights and our responsibilities. They need all our love & understanding.
